Great fun。 Nick Spencer does a bang up job writing Spidey。 Perfect mix of humor, action, mystery, and regular life。

Es entretenido, pero no es literatura。 Después de leer los cuatro primeros libros de The Swamp Thing de Alan Moore, cualquier otro cómic palidece en contraste。

So I’ve been wanting to read more Spider-Man for quite sometime and this seemed like a perfect jumping on point。 I’m glad I did because this is a back to basics approach to the character。 I’m gonna be honest seeing Peter and Mary Jane back together made me so happy they are my favorite comic book couple so that definitely made me enjoy the story more。 I’m excited to see where this series goes。

A fun, fresh re-boot of a college aged Peter Parker trying to do what he does best: be spider-man。

I bumped this review up a whole star for Ryan Ottley’s wonderful artwork。 The Story, script, and dialogue, unfortunately, could not have been more rote。 A bore of a read。

I will shove as much Spider-Man content into my eyes as I can and I will enjoy every minute of it。Why is it that no matter what I do, the people I love are always the ones who end up paying for my mistakes? This Spidey does feel a little different, but that’s nothing strange when switching to a new author。 I really liked the mix of banter and harsh reality that Spencer offered in this volume。 Peter has to deal with the ramifications of his past actions in a new way this time around。It was also in I will shove as much Spider-Man content into my eyes as I can and I will enjoy every minute of it。Why is it that no matter what I do, the people I love are always the ones who end up paying for my mistakes? This Spidey does feel a little different, but that’s nothing strange when switching to a new author。 I really liked the mix of banter and harsh reality that Spencer offered in this volume。 Peter has to deal with the ramifications of his past actions in a new way this time around。It was also interesting to see the split of Power and Responsibility in the latter half! Showing the complexities of his character by analyzing them individually was a really fun take。 If not a little terrifying to see how people truly are a careful balance that keeps the control in place。Also I kept grinning as all the villains kept showing up。 They’re cheesy and fun and I missed seeing them all。 I’m excited to see where the underlying mystery goes as I keep reading the series! 。。。more

I really tried to like this but I couldn't。 I'm very mix on Spencer as a writer, most of his writing is goofy and I figured that would work with Spider-Man。 It doesn't, Spencer spends most of the comic making shenanigans with the characters rather than an actual narrative。 His jokes aren't even that witty or clever they're just silly。 And I love silliness but it just doesn't work for this comic。 Ottley's art on the other hand saved this comic。 The characters were very emotional/expressive and th I really tried to like this but I couldn't。 I'm very mix on Spencer as a writer, most of his writing is goofy and I figured that would work with Spider-Man。 It doesn't, Spencer spends most of the comic making shenanigans with the characters rather than an actual narrative。 His jokes aren't even that witty or clever they're just silly。 And I love silliness but it just doesn't work for this comic。 Ottley's art on the other hand saved this comic。 The characters were very emotional/expressive and the action scenes were a lot of fun to look at。 But other than the art I didn't have much interest in this book。 I don't know if I'll continue this series。 。。。more

Have been reading Amazing Spider man on and off for 30 years。 Cant read the monthly book anymore but the trade paperbacks is a happy substitute。 Nick Spencer is a writer that understands Mr Parker very well。 Peter Parker is as important or more than Spider man。 The supporting cast he employs is used well and as a fan of the Peter-Mary Jane marriage i was ecstatic and hopefully that it continues。 My only problem is Ottley's artwork。 Its okay but a little plain。 Looking forward to future trades。 Have been reading Amazing Spider man on and off for 30 years。 Cant read the monthly book anymore but the trade paperbacks is a happy substitute。 Nick Spencer is a writer that understands Mr Parker very well。 Peter Parker is as important or more than Spider man。 The supporting cast he employs is used well and as a fan of the Peter-Mary Jane marriage i was ecstatic and hopefully that it continues。 My only problem is Ottley's artwork。 Its okay but a little plain。 Looking forward to future trades。 。。。more

I enjoyed the writer's The Superior Foes of Spider-Man so I was interested to see what he could do with the actual Spidey, and it was pretty on brand。 Fortunately Ottley's expressive art helps keep the humour from becoming too one note, in my view。I've never been too much of a Web-Head fan, if I'm being honest, but I do enjoy dipping into his adventures from time to time, and it seems like this soft reboot (it still makes mention of how Peter Parker used to run his own company, his estrangement I enjoyed the writer's The Superior Foes of Spider-Man so I was interested to see what he could do with the actual Spidey, and it was pretty on brand。 Fortunately Ottley's expressive art helps keep the humour from becoming too one note, in my view。I've never been too much of a Web-Head fan, if I'm being honest, but I do enjoy dipping into his adventures from time to time, and it seems like this soft reboot (it still makes mention of how Peter Parker used to run his own company, his estrangement from MJ, how Otto Octavius took over his body for a while, etc。, but for the most part it's Peter back to being a schlubb in a crappy apartment scrambling to make ends meet) is as good an entry point as any。 。。。more

Man, It's a great relief after the previous dan slot series。 Don't get me wrong, I loved Dan, but the series never went anywhere。 Spider-man thus needed a reboot。 And with one last swing with 'go down swinging', Dan slot showed what he is capable of。 To me that saga was one of the best among Spidey sagas。 And then Nick Spenser series came。 Read it a year ago, can't remember much。 But it was like getting the old classic spidey back with his jokes and bad lucks。 It's not epic, but It's great fun t Man, It's a great relief after the previous dan slot series。 Don't get me wrong, I loved Dan, but the series never went anywhere。 Spider-man thus needed a reboot。 And with one last swing with 'go down swinging', Dan slot showed what he is capable of。 To me that saga was one of the best among Spidey sagas。 And then Nick Spenser series came。 Read it a year ago, can't remember much。 But it was like getting the old classic spidey back with his jokes and bad lucks。 It's not epic, but It's great fun to read。 The drawing was tooooo good。 I am currently on issue #47, and can sense an epic battle looming over the horizon。 。。。more

So here we are again at yet another reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man monthly serial。 This time with the freshly disgraced writer of ‘Evil’ Captain America: Nick Spencer。It’s actually a lot better than I was expecting。 Spencer has a great feel for writing the Peter Parker and Spider-Man character(s)。 It’s a lot more humbling reading this than the over the top plot nonsense that Slott wrote or the so witty it’s almost insulting footnotes that Chip threw at you。 This is down to earth spidey struggl So here we are again at yet another reboot of The Amazing Spider-Man monthly serial。 This time with the freshly disgraced writer of ‘Evil’ Captain America: Nick Spencer。It’s actually a lot better than I was expecting。 Spencer has a great feel for writing the Peter Parker and Spider-Man character(s)。 It’s a lot more humbling reading this than the over the top plot nonsense that Slott wrote or the so witty it’s almost insulting footnotes that Chip threw at you。 This is down to earth spidey struggling again with money and back almost immediately with MJ again (finally)。 This was great and the first issue of this trade was terrific, I think it’s one of the better first issue Spider-Man reboots I’ve read in a while but I guess that’s not saying much when they’ve been so spectacularly bad。Where this begins to go pear shaped is when Spencer decides to separate Spider-Man and Peter Parker from each other。 This is due to a retcon。 Apparently, the machine that helped turn Peter into Spider-Man also can split two personalities apart into clone-like-not-clone counterparts。 It’s a metaphorical take on the importance of balancing his dual life and especially his。。。 power and responsibility。。。 how original。 I don’t think anyone has ever covered that before with clones。Other than that glaring plot issue, everything Spencer set up on this run has actually drawn me in and got me interested。 Just when I was about to call it a day on all Spider-People。 。。。more

First comic trade I’ve managed to finish in 2020。 The first trade for volume 5 of The Amazing Spider-Man is An enjoyable Spider-Man tale and the first I’ve read in a few years。 Bad luck runs rampant for Pete。 He loses everything even himself for awhile there。 Some witty and funny moments which I expect from a Spider-Man title。 Entertaining story arc watching Pete pull himself back together。Read 10/25/20

After Dan Slott's ten year-plus run on The Amazing Spider-Man title, a new writer swings by to helm the title of the web slinger。Honestly, I'm not really keeping track of current superhero comics nowadays。 I find it to be tiresome。 However, since Ryan Ottley was the artist of the comic, it peaked my interest。The writer, Nick Spencer, brings Peter back to his status quo, where he is single and broke etc。 Sigh, I guess I'm just tired of seeing this same old Spider-Man trope。 Oh, almost forgot to m After Dan Slott's ten year-plus run on The Amazing Spider-Man title, a new writer swings by to helm the title of the web slinger。Honestly, I'm not really keeping track of current superhero comics nowadays。 I find it to be tiresome。 However, since Ryan Ottley was the artist of the comic, it peaked my interest。The writer, Nick Spencer, brings Peter back to his status quo, where he is single and broke etc。 Sigh, I guess I'm just tired of seeing this same old Spider-Man trope。 Oh, almost forgot to mention, there is a new villain, yay。。。The comic was alright for the most part, but it felt like I missed stuff from previous comics。 That's one of the reasons why I stick to self-contained comics rather than runs。It gets 2。5 stars out of 5 。。。more

This book started off so good, then took a。。。 stupid turn。 I was not a fan of the whole spider-man and Peter Parker as two separate people。 That being said, the fact Kraven was shown at the end suggests it could get better。

I liked it very much。Spencer takes Spidey literally back to basics (unemployed, back in school, rent problems, girl problems, aunt May problems, roommate trouble, etc。) and he manages to do it organically, without any unexplained retcons, brand-new-days or Mephisto deals。There are at least 3 jokes per page。 May not always hit the spot, however it's so refreshing that someone finally remembered that Spidey has a sense of humor。 That he's that guy who will annoy his enemies to death, right before I liked it very much。Spencer takes Spidey literally back to basics (unemployed, back in school, rent problems, girl problems, aunt May problems, roommate trouble, etc。) and he manages to do it organically, without any unexplained retcons, brand-new-days or Mephisto deals。There are at least 3 jokes per page。 May not always hit the spot, however it's so refreshing that someone finally remembered that Spidey has a sense of humor。 That he's that guy who will annoy his enemies to death, right before beating them senseless。 It seems to me that after JMS's super-dark run everyone has written him too seriously, even Bendis didn't let go with the jokes and fun。 Especially after Deadpool's huge rise in popularity, it seems like everyone forgot that Spider-Man was the original annoying joke-machine。The plot is a bit all over the place, I'll admit that。 Especially since Spencer set up some things in the very first issue, like the Lizard (in his lizard form, now reformed -- pun not intended) teaching Spidey's class, or Boomerang being Peter's roommate, and then didn't really bring up these parts again until the end of the story arc。 Hope this changes in the next issues。 Definitely gonna read them though, he has me intrigued。Liked also the fact that Spidey's epic battles with alien invasions and huge killer robots took a back seat to his personal life and troubles。 This is what we want to see, Peter struggling with balancing everything and trying to always do the right thing。Ryan Ottley's art is always amazing。 When I first saw him drawing Invincible back in 2003, first thing I thought was that this guy should be drawing Spider-Man。 Glad to see Marvel had the same idea。 Having read so much Invincible though, I have to keep reminding myself now that I'm reading Spider-Man and not Invincible。I don't know if it's Ottley's art or Spencer has also been affected, but I feel that this run is heavily influenced by Invincible。 The fact that Spidey casually fights off epic battles while he actually focuses more on his personal stuff, the shady secret government agency, how Mary-Jane is written like Atom Eve (who I believe was originally influenced by the classic MJ) and other stuff。 I don't know, maybe it's just me that feels like that。 。。。more

Back to Basics is an appropriate title for the brand new Spider-Man series。 Peter Parker is back to his life as Spidey, and dealing with the complications as a result of it。 Being framed as Wilson Fisk’s new buddy by the Mayor himself, all the heroes see Pete as a sell-out to one of New York’s worst villains。 Meanwhile, Pete’s job is in jeopardy and his newest roommate is a shock even to himself。 This is a great new start to one of Marvel’s most iconic heroes。

My attempts at reading comics keep hitting dead ends atm。 I liked a lot of parts of this but as a whole it fell flat for me。 I’ll for sure try out later books in this series tho。
